What classes and grade levels do you teach?

6th Grade ELA

What can students do to be successful in your classroom?

To be successful in my classroom, students need to think about what they have read and form their own opinion about it. They need to be able to think about why events happen in a text and why an author decides to write a certain way.

What do you wish parents knew about their middle schoolers?

Middle school is hard, especially 6th grade. It is one of the biggest transitions children will make. They will not always succeed, and that's ok. It's what they learn and how they continue after they fall that is important.

How can families best support your classroom?

Communication and trust. When your student is having a rough day, I want to know. We are a team who needs to trust each other and work together to best support our students.

What do you love most about teaching middle schoolers?

I love this age because they haven't lost hope in the world. Everything they experience is big and bold. They are also really funny.

What’s something fun or surprising about you that students might not know?

I was born in the Netherlands, I studied abroad in Oxford, England for a summer, and I love camping.
